Great set, shakey service – Spartan Child –
This TV has an amazing picture from every source that I have hooked up to it (Comcast HD, XBox 360, PS3 & Blu Ray). That’s the end of the good news.

The customer service folks from LG are not all that helpful and you’ll get transfered a few times before getting to the TV Warrany people. I spent 55 minutes on the phone during my last experience, the majority of that time was spent listening to elevator music, waiting to get an appointment with one of their authorized repair goons. My Amazing picture has been amazingly broken for 37 days now … they’ve made two attempts to fix it and both failed (well, actually, one succeeded for about 4 hours), the remainder of that 37 days has been spent waiting on backorder parts and rescheduling appointments.

Hopefully yours will not break down because LG, although they claim to be the greatest company since sliced peanut butter, do not blink at allowing a customer to sit with a broken product for over a month during the holidays. I purchased two LCD TV’s for Christmas and you can bet your sweet rear that they do not have an “LG” label on them.

Did I already mention that it looked great while it worked (almost a whole year).

LG 37LH40 37-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

I basically bought this TV to use as a PC monitor. Between games and movies I wanted that “cinema” experience in my office, not just on the couch in the living room.

I chose the LG based on the stats and reviews. Overall it is a great TV, with easy to use menus and just about all the picture control a person could ever want. The picture control goes beyond most TV’s options with LG’s “expert” picture mode that lets you adjust much more than just contrast and color.

This TV is hooked up to the PC via HDMI and the PC recognized it immediately. It also gives the option of 24hz refresh rate (the pc recognizes it is a 120hz model that will run 24hz without pulldown), so there were two native resolutions available, 1080p/60hz and 1080p/24hz. It really isn’t needed on a PC, but nice to know if you are running a blu-ray player it will accept the 24hz signal without issue (a PC will normally change to 24hz when fullscreen movies are played even if you have it set to 60hz).

The one issue I found with this TV is that there is no PiP. My 2-year old Vizio first generation LCD has PiP, why wouldn’t a brand new 120hz model have the same? No PiP falls just short of a deal breaker, but I can live without it. The idea was to be able to watch TV in the PiP while browsing the net or working, but that is out the window.

I would like to say that most people are not going to like the “TruMotion” option that 120hz TV’s offer. The LG TruMotion does work, but I have found that the picture is so surreal that it is uncomfortable to watch. This has been the case on every 120hz TV I have seen EXCEPT the Sony Bravia XBR series. The Sony engine just seems to retain the cinema feel while adding the additional smoothness to the picture. If you are on the fence between the two then definitely consider the Bravia, the price difference is worth it, expecially considering you will be keeping a TV like this for years. The TruMotion is great for sports though, it almost feels more like looking through a window than watching a screen.

The performance of this TV has been outstanding so far (excluding TruMotion). Just comparing it to my Vizio 47″ 1080p 60hz there is a big difference. Tearing that was present in some movies and all games on the Vizio is completely gone with the LG. Scrolling and fast movement are very smooth and clear, and the color depth is outstanding. Movies really stand out in 720p or less and much of the graininess is gone vs my older Vizio. In 1080p the clarity of the screen stands out and even sitting only about 3-4 feet away it looks great.

The sound is good, but nothing great. There are options like voice clarity that I really like, it helps keep the volume reasonable and you can still hear voices from shows/movies very well.

The design is nice, there is a LED on the bottom that moves when you power it on, just a gimmick item that makes it look nice. The bezel is rather large, about twice the size of my Vizio 47″, but in all honesty you don’t notice it. The only drawback is the bezel is a highly reflective black and any light behind me reflects. Consider that when buying. The screen is not a glossy screen, but it does have a tiny bit of reflection to it… my guess is that the enhanced contrast ratio this TV has requires the screen to be darker making it reflect a little more than an older LCD might.

Overall a great purchase. There certainly is a difference in picture quality between this and older 60hz LCD’s. Personally I rate the XBR Bravia LCDs a little higher, but you also pay for that difference. I know there are a lot of people like me looking to get an HDTV for use as a monitor, if you are then you will enjoy this TV. Just remember that you need to take at least a few hours and really set the picture how you like it because right out of the box it looks good but with some tweaking you can get this screen to do some amazing things.

I also want to add that Amazon shipped this TV out very fast and the Pilot carriers who delivered the TV were great (I also got free shipping). They actually called and delivered it on Saturday since they had so many Christmas orders from Amazon. I declined, but the Pilot driver offered to bring it into my house and unbox/power it up to make sure everything was working. If you are worried about having a TV like this delivered (like I was), you don’t need to be.

Great Picture Quality for HD Sources – Jimmy 5k – Oaktown, CA
Bought this TV after Black Friday and with free shipping (and installation which I didnt need) and no tax to a CA resident (usually another 10%) I figured it was a steal. I have not been disappointed with the picture quality. My PS3 for gaming has been great. And Bluray movies look great. The audio seems to be OK. A small bedroom so its hard to really get a good feeling for the power of the TV audio. The 120hz is good for video games but in movies it just makes everything look like fast motion and un natural. I have tried to find the Movie 24 fps mode but cant for some reason. Havent really looked at the manual though. Works well for PC gaming but text can be a pain on such a large screen at 1920×1080. Overall great picture quality for HD sources and 120 HZ helps in some cases. For 1 delivered and 1080p for 37″ from a reputable company its a deal.

LG 55LH40 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

Hi Guys, I know it can be exhausting reading/researching all of the reviews about so many different flats. I started a year ago and was pretty convinced with Samsung but glad I didn’t get any of them (650, 750…series, etc.) because the reviews a year later are not so hot. I was going to buy Walmart’s Visio 55″ 120hz this week for 98 because it looked like a great flat and the reviews weren’t half bad either. I went to Best Buy to get a surround sound (research on customer reviews was minimal for these because the flat was tiring enough, lol). Anyway, I saw the LG 55″ 120hz for around dollars more. The only perk over the Visio was this one had 70k ratio vs. Visio’s 50k. Took it home and with the help of a friend, had the flat up and going an hour or so. Most of my time was invested with centering and installing the support bracket on the wall. I probably could have hung the sucker myself being it is only 70lbs but better to be safe. I hooked up my 5.1 and Blue-ray today. I am not hard to please as I have endured over ten years with an old tv (small tv at that, lol) from 1995 with no surround sound. I really think it’s an awesome flat. I haven’t adjusted one thing and the flat looks absolutely great. You will want a surround system or sound bar, the sound is just good ole tv quality sound. I will probably try some fine tuning when I get around to reading the manuals. Anyhow, for those that are interested, I bought the Sony DAV-HDX285 Home Theatre system and the Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray player. I don’t like integrated units because of the possibility of one part going bad. I bought this particular Sony BR because it has the wireless network technology…I am listening to Christmas music right now from [...] as I write this novel, lol. I also use it for my Netflix movies. All of the components mixed together sound just like the movie theater in my living room, of course my living room is close to the size of one, 1200 sq. ft., lol. Anyway, I will report back here if anything goes haywire. One last thought, I didn’t buy any of those very expensive warranty packages. The manufacture is good for one year. I figure if your product can make it one year it will probably do well for you beyond that. Merry Christmas all….Dave

Forget about the 2 star review, I first purchased a 2500 dollar lcd for my media room, which spends much time as a pc monitor, I bought a 47 inch lg to replace it, it was 1100 dollars, Since then every tv is being replaced with lg units. The operation is good, the picture is every bit as good as the 2500 dollar set that didn’t play well with pc’s The HDMI problems are just as much a part of the technology as any problems with the tv, every link has to be 1.2 hdmi, or you will have problems, even then, hdmi can be tricky, The hdmi technology still needs improvement, Just that simple. Not the fault of the TV. I have many issues with other components with hdmi once in a while. Especially on some of the lame HD cable boxes, which are really brand and model dependent. The LG brabd represents tremendous value. A comment made on another review, claiming LG uses inferior components is false. Yes, lg does produce many other brands that are very inexpensive, and they do use lower quality components, if you bothered to look, the LG uses better power supplies. If you want to throw stones, take a look at all sony kdl series tv’s, then the xbr, huge difference. This set cost’s half of an xbr, and trounces the kdl series, at a lower or equal cost.

Purached the tv for the good price at the local retailer. Took it home and set it up. As soon as the picture was up I was not happy. The colors were dull. And there is not a lot what you can do about it. Contrast ratio is bad too. I had a DVd in and that looked afoul. Big chunks of unformed colors. Even the Blue _ray was not clear and HD as it suppose to be. And I dont know what it was, but motion was sometimes hard to watch on tv. Felt weird for the eyes. I do understand, that just a standard tv channels can not look that good in a huge TV, but this was not good at all. Colors and clarity are deeply off.
So if you just want a big tv without quality behind it and you are just willing to go and waste your money on that, then go ahead!
We returned it and got ourselves Sony VE5 Eco. And as picky as I am- I am happy ! Colors and sharpness are like out of the different world!

LG 26LG30 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Very happy with my decision on the LG 26LG30 – excellent picture and great tuner! I have Comcast as my service provider and I don’t use a converter box and this TV’s tuner is able to display the HD broadcasts of the local TV stations right from the cable coming out of the wall! I used a Peerless Universal mount (not recommended for this particular model, but that’s a whole other story) and ran the wires up through the wall for a nice clean install in a master bedroom. Totally recommend this TV – great value for the price. I looked at everything in the 26″ category and by dropping down to a lesser priced product from another manufacturer, the difference in the picture quality was very clear – this one is WORTH paying a little more for without going for a higher end model. Best way to buy a TV is go look at them in the big box stores and then go buy on line – I ended up paying a lot less.

As a recent retiree travel trailering across the US, I bought this tv in Chattanooga at HH Gregg on Black Friday, as an in-store, unadvertised, NIB special for 9! It has an amazingly clear picture, and the colors are brilliant. The blacks are BLACK. I have only used it thus far to receive both analog and digital, including HD, over-the-air signals with rabbit ears and find it to be very satisfactory. The sound leaves a bit to be desired, but with such small in-set speakers that is to be expected. When I connect my small Altec Lansing computer speakers with separate subwoofer, the sound is awesome. All in all, a great product, especially at the price………….

LG 55LH85 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Wireless HDMI LCD HDTV, Black Review

This HDTV is all we could have hoped for. It arrived this afternoon and we had it setup with all input devices connected to the wireless media hub in about 15 minutes. So far everything has worked beautifully. If there is any degradation of the picture due to the wireless connection I’m not able to discern it. The picture is stunning, DVD upscaling from our LG BD390 blu-ray player is incredible, HD channels all come in fabulous. Sound is synchronized to perfection.

The location of the wireless media hub is about 10 feet from the TV. It’s within a recessed cabinet that houses our reciever, blu-ray player, DVD recorder, and cable HD DVR set top box. All devices are connected and outputting picture and sound without a hitch. So far we’ve sampled from several DVDs and a blu-ray disc. No problems whatsoever.

If you were looking at this item and wondering whether the wireless HDMI would function well, you need not worry. We have been waiting for this capability for some time and were rather apprehensive getting such an early model. If further TVs are produced with this capability I expect that they will catch on very fast. Having the freedom to put the TV well away from all your other input devices is a dream come true.

Too good to be true? – Michael P. Tierney –
I have not found a review for this TV anywhere. But the wireless feature seems an ideal solution for my install. I ordered the TV and it will be delivered today. I will update the review next week. But for now, I give it a 5 based on the regular 55″ product I saw at Best Buy. BB does not carry the wireless version.
I also bought the LG Blue Ray player which arrived a couple days ago.
For both products delivery has been excellent. I ordered them on 11/16 and they proposed to deliver the TV on 11/24 but I was not available so they pushed it out to today, 11/27.
The whole buying experience has been excellent and I expect the TV will be too.

LG 19LG30 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

This LCD HDTV is a good size and the speakers aren’t bad at all. The only issue I have with 19LG30, and it may be on all LG TVs, is that the four tuners do not integrate with eachother.

19LG30 has NTSC, ATSC and QAM (plus an broadcast tuner) but they are all given their own seperate folder that will not allow you to integrate them when scrolling through channels. Put more simply, if you press up (on the remote) and are on channel 5 (5-0, standard def.) with the CATV tuner, you cannot go to the HD channel 5-1 (which LG puts in the CADTV tuner folder) you will go to the next in-line standard definition channel, ie. 6. One needs to press 5 again on the remote to go to 5-1 or 5-2 etc. Once in the HD folder or CADTV, pressing up will only scroll through that folder channels. So if you want to go from channel 7.1 (HD channel) to channel 8 (SD channel) you cannot logically and simply press up on the remote: you must press 8, wait for the delay, and the TV then switches to the CATV folder of channels. Bollocks!

This “set-up” is totally frustrating if you are using this TV without a cable box, which is kind of the idea for a 19″ TV, and typically scroll channels using up and down on a remote.

I am not sure if this will be an issue after 17 February however, as there is a seperate folder labeled DTV in the channel menu (which remains empty after auto-tuning). If DTV integrates all the channels (once it is online) than this is a dead isssue and this is a 5 star TV. Otherwise why LG do you have such a poor operating system that can’t enable/integrate the different tuners? Samsung and Sony integrate the tuners into one folder/line-up.

The TV offers a nice contrast ratio, for a small package. It has built in settings for like game, movie and sports. Most in this size don’t offer that. It also has for its speakers, the settings offers different sound settings. Standard (which is the default) sounds like a tin can. But if you change it, it sounds nice. So I can not recommend the default sound.

Nice TV – D. Haddock –
This TV has very good picture quality and reasonably good sound quality. It has a wide angle of vision so the picture stays clear and vivid when you move around the room. This was a huge concern for me when shopping for a small LCD TV. The construction appears to be of high quality. Very happy with this TV and would buy this model again.

This TV clearly states on its spec sheet under this heading: REAR AUDIO/VIDEO INPUTS/OUTPUTS this item: RS-232c In (Control/Service)BUT LG tech support has reported to me this is incorrect. I purchased this TV specifically for the RS232 control and it doesn’t work at all! I will try to return it.

Poor Quality – Savy Consumer –
Poor sound quality, erratic behavior when channel changing. Forgets channels entered. Sometimes it just blacks out if you change the channels quickly. The sound is tinny and scratchy with no depth even after trying to improve it .
