This LCD HDTV is a good size and the speakers aren’t bad at all. The only issue I have with 19LG30, and it may be on all LG TVs, is that the four tuners do not integrate with eachother.

19LG30 has NTSC, ATSC and QAM (plus an broadcast tuner) but they are all given their own seperate folder that will not allow you to integrate them when scrolling through channels. Put more simply, if you press up (on the remote) and are on channel 5 (5-0, standard def.) with the CATV tuner, you cannot go to the HD channel 5-1 (which LG puts in the CADTV tuner folder) you will go to the next in-line standard definition channel, ie. 6. One needs to press 5 again on the remote to go to 5-1 or 5-2 etc. Once in the HD folder or CADTV, pressing up will only scroll through that folder channels. So if you want to go from channel 7.1 (HD channel) to channel 8 (SD channel) you cannot logically and simply press up on the remote: you must press 8, wait for the delay, and the TV then switches to the CATV folder of channels. Bollocks!

This “set-up” is totally frustrating if you are using this TV without a cable box, which is kind of the idea for a 19″ TV, and typically scroll channels using up and down on a remote.

I am not sure if this will be an issue after 17 February however, as there is a seperate folder labeled DTV in the channel menu (which remains empty after auto-tuning). If DTV integrates all the channels (once it is online) than this is a dead isssue and this is a 5 star TV. Otherwise why LG do you have such a poor operating system that can’t enable/integrate the different tuners? Samsung and Sony integrate the tuners into one folder/line-up.

The TV offers a nice contrast ratio, for a small package. It has built in settings for like game, movie and sports. Most in this size don’t offer that. It also has for its speakers, the settings offers different sound settings. Standard (which is the default) sounds like a tin can. But if you change it, it sounds nice. So I can not recommend the default sound.

I did plenty of research before buying this LCD and now that I’ve had it for a couple of weeks I am comfortable saying I’m completely satisfied with my purchase. The picture quality straight from the factory was good, but there are also quite a few adjustments available to really fine tune the picture to your own particular liking.

I’ve read some complaints on here about a lip synch problem with the 40-series LG televisions, however from what I can gather this problem is caused by people using the wrong HDMI cable with the set. You just need to make sure you’re using an HDMI cable that’s version 1.3 and category 2 certified and you shouldn’t have any problems.

As for the sound, I think it’s actually okay for what it is: speakers within the television. Obviously you’re not going to get home theater-quality sound out of the television itself, so if you adjust your expectations accordingly you should be satisfied. With that being said, I think anyone who’s willing to shell out the amount of money it costs to get a set like this would obviously do well to also invest in an actual home theater system so you can enjoy the whole experience.

Overall I’m completely satisfied with my purchase and can’t wait to round out the rest of my system as soon as the PS3 is available again…

I was looking for a 46 or a 52 inch television, but found this one on sale. Purchased it without much thought and waited for it to arrive. I was stunned when it showed up, it really is one thing to see a big TV in the store and quite another to see it in your home. I moved it and set it up; and I was instantly happy with the product. The only thing that still shocks me a little is the massive-ness of the TV, it is much bigger than I thought.

The picture is beautiful and bright. The sound is adequate for my needs, but my movie sound goes through my home theater system. Some times the TV is a little too crisp, but I have not fiddled with the settings much yet, so I hope to tinker with the settings a little.

Over all, I have had this TV about one month and am exceptionally pleased with it. Now I just need to finish the stand I started building for it.

I bought this one from Amazon, just got delivered 4 days ago. The TV looks nice, but after set-up on the swivel stand was completed, we immediately noticed the unit is not level. When facing the TV, the right side is lower (where the power indicator light is located), you can’t miss it! It could be the stand that is not strong enough to carry the unit’s weight.

Another problem is when switching channels, the screen turns completely black, no picture for at least 15 seconds, very annoying. I use an HD cable receiver and I don’t know what’s causing this. I didn’t experience this problem with my smaller HDTV that I used before this one. I’m considering returning it, ‘just wondering how the process will go due to this unit’s size (55″) and I don’t know if I will ever get a full refund. I’m afraid I’ll end up losing more money than saving on tax and shipping.

I’ve wanting to dive into HD TVs for quite some time now. I ordered this beautiful, glossy, thin behemoth. I ordered the TV for only 00 versus where I originally found it watching HSN selling for 00. The product was ordered through Tiger Direct and I received the TV within one week. The packing stated the weight was 112 lbs. My tiny girlfriend and I were able to carry it around with ease though. No dead pixels or physical damage to the TV what so ever. I hooked up the HD cable, XBOX 360, and my surround sound system. I played Gears of War 2 & Halo 3 immediately. The colors were simply amazing except for the range of black. There was no blur during 10 hours of straight playtime. The sound wasn’t bad when I unhooked my surround sound for TV shows, but during the play of XBOX there was a difference not too big though. There are plenty of jacks on this TV and I’ve even hooked up my laptop to the TV with no problems at all. I can even sit away from the TV with a wireless mouse/keyboard linked to my laptop and can still read websites just fine. All in all I’m very happy with this purchase. Thank-You LG & Amazon

This TV has connectivity issues. First there is only 1 RF input. So you cannot have cable and antenna connected to it at the same time. There are 3 HDMI inputs but they share a single audio input. The on-screen program info for OTA digital TV is limited to program title and length. Even cheap converter boxes give a program description. Finally after 1 year a vertical red line appeared on the screen from top to bottom about 1/3 the way across the screen. LG customer service is non-existent.

Great TV for as long as it works, mine lasted just 12 months. The screen went blank from one day to the other, can’t even access the menu. No wonder this TV has been discontinued, don’t pass up on an extended warranty.

I wanted a tv to mount on my bedroom wall and decided on this one.
The slim design is good. The picture is excelent. The picture from the dvd player is excelent. The one draw back is the sound is so “quiet” when watching a DVD movie. The sound does not seem to increase higher than the fifty percent level even though the volume is truned up to one hundred percent. The sound from the TV chanels is fine. It is a good thing that my hearing is ok.

You take it out of the box, attach the base (3 screws), put the included batteries in the remote, hook up the cable, plug it in, hit power, answer a few questions and it starts to automatically scan for channels which takes 10 minutes or so.
Voila, you’re watching and listening to TV. If you get a HD signal, they come in fine. For that you’d enter 5 for standard def. channel 5 and 5-1 for the HD channel 5. Easy.
The audio is, well, it’s not great but it does allow you to plug in speakers or an AVR if you like. There are also 2 HDMI, component, and compositite video connections.
Again, nice little TV for 0. If you want to spend more I’m sure you can get more features but how many features do you want in a 19″ TV?

I searched high and low for a 40 to 42in TV and this was the best deal on the market. I was being told by salesmen (and reviews) that Samsungs had the best picture and I found them to look pretty good as well. But for the price range I was in (00) I was not finding the specs I wanted. (120Hz, 42in, 1080p, auto light adjust, swivel base) As a matter of fact, it was very hard to find a reputable TV maker with a 120Hz 42 in that price point. Then I stumbled across the 42LGX. I thought the TV was stunning looking with the scarlet red on the back, the chrome colored base and the clear, see-through power circle. It had all those specs and the picture was absolutely stunning! I looked at it side by side next to a comparable Samsung and the pictures were very similar. When comparing to the Samsung models in the same price, the picture was better. Samsung would only offer a 60Hz TV at that price point with a 40in screen. It just looked way smaller. The LG was a no brainer. The only thing that made the decision difficult was the 42LG70. It had the exact same specs, but it wasn’t 1.8in thick. It was on clearance as a display model for 0 and the LGX was brand new for 9. The Samsung closest in price and features was about 00. I ended up buying at Fryes Electronics with a 5 year warranty and I’m very happy with the deal.

I use the TV with my computer (I disconnected my cable TV) to watch movies and TV shows over the internet and it works great. I use Windows Media Center and I have no problem getting full and wide screen shows in high def. I also use a video capture card that gives me all the features of a HD DVR. I get HD over the air and it looks way better than cable or satellite on this TV. The TV works very well as a second monitor with the DVI connection. You cannot tell if you’re watching TV piped from the computer or directly on the TV – it looks that good. Also, when people see it, they can’t believe I don’t have cable.

I would highly recommend this TV to anyone. Easy to set up – I didn’t even make any changes to the color settings at all. Right out the box, it looked great. And the menus and just so simple. It’s fairly light, connections are easy to make, it’s just a great looking TV. If you can find it on sale, buy it! You won’t be sorry.

only had this tv for a day but the hd clarity is much better than my old tv. easy to set up but could not intregrate my dish remote to control the dvr and the tv together. otherwise seems to work great so far.

I bought this television at Target a couple of weeks ago for 9. I bought it to replace an analog set. The analog set worked well with a converter box but the hum from the box drove me crazy. I wasn’t expecting much and was prepared to return the TV if it wasn’t acceptable. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised. I’m able to get local HD stations with rabbit ears, the picture is very good and the sound is also good. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Excellent LCD!!!

I bought this LCD last year (Nov 2008) on Amazon for 80. I was trying to look for a good black Friday sale on a 120mhz LCD. I went and checked out so many LCDs and saw this one which I loved. Well after looking around for the sales and deals, nothing came close to Amazon’s price, which included free white glove delivery and no tax, so my total price was 80.

TV arrived on time and the delivery guy even took it up stairs and unpacked it and hooked it up so I could test it to make sure it was working fine. Setup was a breeze and watching my HD Uverse and my upscale DVD, both on 1080i, is such a blast. I don’t have a Blu-Ray, so I could not tell you how it looks on 1080p yet but I have seen how it looks at the stores playing Blu-Ray and it looks great! I can’t tell you how great the picture is, you have to see to believe. Do what I did, go to a Best Buy, Fry’s, or any electronic store and look at the picture yourself. The great thing about that is you can do a side by side with other models and brands. I also have a PC hooked up to it and using it as a monitor and playing games on it via the computer looks great. Movies played off of the computer or streamed from the internet look great as well. The LCD has 4 HDMI connections which is a great feature to have. To me the build-in sound is good. I have it in the media/game room and it sounds just fine without any hook extra hook ups. When I have people over, I’ll turn on the surround sound on to feel the movies but for everyday watching, the build-in sound is great. Many of my friends that come over comment on how nice and true to life the picture quality looks. These are people with other LCD like Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Sony. Their LCD/Plasmas range from 42-50 from 60-120mhz. It’s nice to know that they think your LCD looks good. Glare is not an issue with this LCD. Others I had seen at the stores had a bad glare from the lights of the store and this one did not at all.

Like I said before, I had shopped for many months looking and playing around with different LCDs and Plasmas, looking and picture quality, features, price, etc. This LCD stood out in my top 5. The price offered on Amazon sealed the deal for me.

This is by far the best LCD for the price. You can’t go wrong.

Great TV but had problems with remote control sensor – sparrow00 – Ocala, Florida, USA
This television is awesome. It has an intelligent sensor which corrects the picture automatically based on the room conditions. Very sleek design and very elegant touch/manual control features. Has USB, component, and HDMI access on side panel as well as on the rear of the TV.

One problem I have just come across after having the TV for 1 year is that it would no longer respond to any remote control. I had to change the remote control sensor which did not correct the problem. After loads of internet searches and trying obscure things, I found a tech forum discussion board in which several people were having the same problem.

The solution was to plug in any 1/8″ headphones into the remote control or the headphone jack on the back of the TV. I tried this and it worked. Then logically, I decided to air-can dust all the component access points on the rear and side panel of the TV. The remote continues to functional as normal without having the headphones plugged in.

Hope this helps anyone who is searching!

I have had this 47LG70 for 14 months. My friend just bought a new Samsung, LCD 52 inch, and has it hooked up to Direct TV HD. The other night he stated that his HD was not as clear as my Dish TV HD. You should have seen his face when I told him that I do not have HD. I am always getting comments on how clear the picture is. The best feature’s are the Aspect Ratio; this sets the screen to the signal feed automatically or you can adjust it yourself. Picture Mode; This mode has Intelligent Sensor as well as other choice’s. The Intelligent Sensor adjust the quality of the picture in different lighting conditions. Our LG is set up in a room with large windows with Southern exposure. No matter what the light condition is the screen stays the same. Oh yeah, No glare!!!!!!
If you are not sure what to buy. Stop your looking and buy this unit. You will not be sorry. The one only draw back is that it only has one Composite (RCA) Connection. But is does have plenty of other inputs that you may never use or need.

Ignore all the other reviews where they say that have owned the TV for a week and love it. I’ve owned this TV for a year and have had plenty of time to discover what a rip off it is.
Picture quality: No complaints

Tuner quality: Terrible. I get better reception from a cheap external tuner.

Sound Quality: The “Invisible Speaker” Buzzes constantly. If you buy this TV plan on also buying a separate sound system.

Inputs: The Inputs have a delay which make it impossible to play video games because the buttons you push on your
controller don’t match up with the action on the screen

Reliability: This is the worst of all. I have already had to replace the mother board and now the bulb just blew out. Even between repairs, the picture does not always boot up properly forcing you to turn the TV off and restart it.
This product is junk! Choose a different brand.
