Not worth it – Tia – akron, ohio
The picture on this tv is great. It is also light weight. My issue is the volume. Even with the TV on full blast it was barely audible! I called westinghouse and they said for me to buy a home theater sound system. Uh, I just bought a brand new tv, should i not be able to HEAR IT without a sound system? It is packed up in the box and being returned today.
If you already have a home theater sound system, then this tv might be fine for you; but if you don’t have one, i would not recommend it as you won’t be able to hear the tv!!
Westinghouse TV failed after 21 months – K. OLEARY –
I bought a Westinghouse SK-19H210S in February ‘08. It was an acceptable, modest cost HDTV until it suddenly stopped powering on 21 months after purchase (and very light use during those months). I can’t speak with certainty about other models from Westinghouse, but heed my experience!
New it was 0 plus tax. Now it is worthless.
Though well out of its one-year warranty, I thought it worth asking if the company would address the problem (since who would ever pay a nickel for a TV that would die in less than two years). A Westinghouse customer service supervisor said they would only stand by their one-year warranty.
I won’t buy a Westinghouse TV again, and you shouldn’t buy one in the first place. A tip: Many Visa and MasterCard bank issuers include a one-year warranty extension on products with warranties of three years or less. If your bank offers this benefit, save your itemized original receipt, your card statement, and your warranty terms so that you can make a claim through Visa or MasterCard.

LG 47LH55 47-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review
Always thought I would buy a plasma but after a salesman strongly recommended the 240Hz LG LCD decided to give it a go. However, after purchasing this 47LH55 model wasn’t sure if a quality plasma would better fit my viewing preferences and since I would be living with a new TV for a few years decided to do a live comparison in my home.
So… purchased a Panasonic plasma 50 inch G15 to compare directly to the 47 inch LG – with one TV being returned at the end of it all. Both TV’s are upper-mid range models so it was a pretty fair head-to-head comparison.
To allow a dynamic comparison, purchased a 2 port HDMI 1×2 powered splitter ver 1.3 certified for full HD 1080P with deep color & HD audio and max bandwidth of 10.2Gbps to allow watching identical channels simultaneously whether in HD, SD cable feeds and 1080P blu-ray. Wanted the best HDMI splitter available, as the signal had to be accurate to both displays – also used identical high quality HDMI cables for all connections.
Both are great TV’s, but the nod went to the LG for more than a couple of reasons.
Compared them straight out of the box. Neither TV was calibrated. Used the standard setting on both TV’s.
The LG displayed SD much better than the Panasonic. The Panasonic was soft with SD and the LG was much sharper.
Both displayed HD cable (720P/1080i) with differences. Both were excellent, the LG was sharper with a more video look and the Panasonic had more a film-look. Liked the Panasonic plasma film look here. (more on that, later)
The Panasonic didn’t have the ability to scale SD 4:3 text to the screen. Any text scroll, such as at the bottom of CNN, was chopped off on both sides of the text.?? Couldn’t figure out how to fix it – maybe it can be done but couldn’t find out how. Big nod to LG.
Liked the LG’s intelligent room light sensor. Also the LG ran cooler and used much less energy even though this new G15 model is now rated Energy Star efficient. Ambient light reflection wasn’t an issue as both have good reflective screen coatings.
The LG LCD was capable of much brighter display. The Panasonic was very good for a plasma but clearly not in the same ball park. I found the black levels on the LG very good maybe not quite as good as the Panasonic but still excellent. Blu-ray, from a new model Playstation 3, looked spectacular on both sets. However, everything better about the LG still applies.
Was able to save almost 0 with the LG. Got excellent deals on both but the LG was more price competitive, in Canada. If the Panasonic had been superior would have bit the difference, since the LG was already scoring better on almost everything it was a no-brainer here.
The speakers on the Panasonic weren’t even close to the quality of the LG’s built-in speakers. Have a great Onyko 807 receiver but don’t always want the surround sound on. Nice to have reasonable sounding speakers in the TV when a quick and dirty news story comes on. Big vote to the LG on TV only sound.
The Panasonic ability to link directly to the internet would be important if I didn’t already have the capability with an internet ready, Onyko receiver and WD TV Live. I was only interested in how these TV’s displayed image and how they sounded. Also much preferred LG’s excellent, quick on-screen menu with easy/fast video, sound & display choices on the Panasonic menu options.
Finally, The LG allows *serious* white balance calibration over the Panasonic plasma. *Ten levels* of white balance. As mentioned earlier, liked how the Panasonic displayed a nice film softness with high-def movies, so decided to try and tweak the colour and white balance in one of the two, expert settings on the LG. Found an expert setup of white balance variables to input – from a specific review and their calibration variables found online. >[...]<
After that, the LG was every bit as good as the Panasonic dispaying high-def movies. The LG now had a film lushness, too.
I started the whole comparison process thinking I would end up spending the extra money for the Panasonic plasma. I kept finding myself surprised at how good this LG model was in direct comparison. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. This same calibration site quoted gave the LG 93 points overall (94 points for value) with the Panasonic G10 model (last model they had reviewed) only receiving 90.87 points overall with a 91 points for value. Both are excellent TV’s but the LG just had too much going for it.
Surprised, I boxed the Panasonic and returned it.
Hope this helps anyone trying to decide.

in short, a cool TV. Good price (could not match anywhere else), free – fast shipping, no tax. excellent picture, good sound, easy to setup. biggest disappointment was that ther is only 1 fiber-optic sound output — and that is hard to synchronize when connected to a sound system.

I’m not a super techy, but the bells and whistles in this tv are amazing. Picture is superb and the sound is more than I expected. Sports and movies are great to watch. I hate the blur I see on other tv’s that are not 240hz, so getting this feature was important to me, and it did not disappoint my decision. I would recommend that you pay the extra money for 240hz. So that’s my review, hope it helps

I really owe it to Amazon that I own this television. I put it on my wish list and intended to buy it… someday. I owned a 55″ 1080i Mitsubishi CRT that weighed 450lbs. I surfed through Amazon one day and this “personal ad” popped up that said, “this television is on your wish list, when are you going to buy it?” I printed out the information on the television and went to our local “blue” store with the ad in my hand. I wanted to see it in person. They had it on display. I played with the remote. A salesman walked up and asked if I like it. “I love it,” I told him, “I just can’t afford your price. I wish you could match this one…” He looked at the paper in my hand. “I’ll match it,” he told me. Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I bought the television the next week at the price Amazon quoted (nearly 0 off the retail price!). We donated the old television to an underprivileged family. They appreciated our old TV as they had a small 19 inch color CRT. We were happy for them. But I have to tell you, after we hooked up the smaller 47″ the difference was striking from the start. Not only do old DVD’s look better, but HD broadcasts, such as NBC (which looks the best) and CBS are extremely sharp. I’m an NFL fan and football games are incredible. The 240hz completely eliminates the “pixil” look during football games we saw on other televisions. The PS3 seems like a new system. Old games are sharper and clearer. The blue ray movies jump off the screen like 3D. Would I buy the TV through Amazon? Absolutely. However, as things worked out, it must have been kismet.

LG 26LH20 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review
I would give this 5 stars if it had a real user manual. The file provided on a disk is only a color version of the B&W manual. The set has a lot of potential custom-setup options and few are documented. I’m quite experienced and managed to figure out most of them, but would have appreciated more information. I bought this for my 80 year old mother and she’ll never figure out what to do if anything goes wrong, because the company provides no useful information for the average consumer who isn’t an AV expert.
Finally, I saw good reviews for the sound, but I don’t agree. The speakers are hidden and sound like it- very honky and stressed sounding. You can fiddle with the audio options but I found the synthetic audio modes to be very unnatural and phasy, indistinct and muddy. The best option to my taste was to disable all processing, but it still doesn’t produce sound that matches the beautiful picture. It’s really too bad that smallish sets like this don’t offer better audio, because it kind of defeats the whole idea of the elegant package if you need to add amplifiers and speakers.

Great Picture. Easy Setup. – R. Young – Texas
This is a very nice TV for the bedroom. Great picture and sound. SD channels even look good. I use it for both OTA and satellite reception. Setup was very easy for me. Wish it had more than one each of component and composite inputs, but overall I still give it a five. Ordered from Amazon with free shipping and it arrived in 3 days.

I was looking for a smaller TV for desktop use. I know the LG brand is usually low quality, but the price was right. I purchased this TV, plugged it in, went through the setup menu, it worked for about 60 seconds, then the TV turned its self off.
After 3 calls to LG tech support, they recommended I return the TV for repair. I tried to return it to the amazon partner I purchased it from: Adorama Camera. They advised they don’t take LG TVs back. What!? So a customer is sent a defective product, but they wont do an exchange! Mental note: never buy from Adorama.
I called LG: the return process is a pain and takes about 6 weeks.
Recommendation: save yourself the frustration of purchasing a product that was not quality tested, buy a Samsung or Sony brand.
Not Crystal Clear – M. Mitchell –
I wanted an LG…little disappointed in the height as compared to my previous 26″ T.V. Truly unsatisfied with the quality of picture on all stations. But, I still have cable and not digital…that might be the reason. It’s better than what we had, so for that reason I’m Ok with it.

Bought this on the advice of my neighbor. Plug & play. I had it on in time to see the Red Sox lose to the Yankees, so I switched over to a movie, the Bad Leiutenant, Harvey Keitel dancing a drug induced solo minuet in all his natural born glory. I’ve got to get HD! I paid 25% less than the Amazon price. My comcast remote won’t recognize the TV code so I have to use separare remotes for each piece of equipment. Other than that, so far so good.

I purchased my LG 42LBX (42LB9D) LCD TV around Thanksgiving and go it for 69.00. During Black Friday it went on sale again for 9.00. I think this set is awesome. Having had just a 32 inch regular TV, to get a 42 in LCD was something I have always wanted. I think the features are so easy to us. The picture is crisp and clear. The colors are beautiful. I will purchase more LG products in the future.

LG 42LGX 42-Inch 1080p 120hz LCD HDTV Review
I searched high and low for a 40 to 42in TV and this was the best deal on the market. I was being told by salesmen (and reviews) that Samsungs had the best picture and I found them to look pretty good as well. But for the price range I was in (00) I was not finding the specs I wanted. (120Hz, 42in, 1080p, auto light adjust, swivel base) As a matter of fact, it was very hard to find a reputable TV maker with a 120Hz 42 in that price point. Then I stumbled across the 42LGX. I thought the TV was stunning looking with the scarlet red on the back, the chrome colored base and the clear, see-through power circle. It had all those specs and the picture was absolutely stunning! I looked at it side by side next to a comparable Samsung and the pictures were very similar. When comparing to the Samsung models in the same price, the picture was better. Samsung would only offer a 60Hz TV at that price point with a 40in screen. It just looked way smaller. The LG was a no brainer. The only thing that made the decision difficult was the 42LG70. It had the exact same specs, but it wasn’t 1.8in thick. It was on clearance as a display model for 0 and the LGX was brand new for 9. The Samsung closest in price and features was about 00. I ended up buying at Fryes Electronics with a 5 year warranty and I’m very happy with the deal.
I use the TV with my computer (I disconnected my cable TV) to watch movies and TV shows over the internet and it works great. I use Windows Media Center and I have no problem getting full and wide screen shows in high def. I also use a video capture card that gives me all the features of a HD DVR. I get HD over the air and it looks way better than cable or satellite on this TV. The TV works very well as a second monitor with the DVI connection. You cannot tell if you’re watching TV piped from the computer or directly on the TV – it looks that good. Also, when people see it, they can’t believe I don’t have cable.
I would highly recommend this TV to anyone. Easy to set up – I didn’t even make any changes to the color settings at all. Right out the box, it looked great. And the menus and just so simple. It’s fairly light, connections are easy to make, it’s just a great looking TV. If you can find it on sale, buy it! You won’t be sorry.
