Vizio VO370M 37″ LCD TV 1080p HDTV Review

Still wowed at how good the new LCDs are. A year or two with an Olevia 37″ I thought was great compared at home with this new Vizio 37″ 1080P downstairs: Damn. All I had to do was put everything in the middle setting, sharpness on 5 (out of 7), turn off all the processing and features, and put the backlight at about 20 to get the whites bright enough (over 10-15 at least for the darkest info). And the in-content blacks are still inky. It renders the entire contrast and color range faithfully except for a little laziness in the middle of the dynamic range curve that can seem “smoky” on some older video mastering jobs (you truly need CRT, Plasma, or exotics to get it perfect). And it doesn’t have to be excruciatingly bright like the Olevias. That 237t-t12 even at it’s lowest of three crude backlight settings still is kind of blinding in bright scenes, and I have the Brightness down to the point at which the blacks do not get blacker but I can still barely see the foot of the contrast curve.

That continuously adjustable backlight on the new screens is essential. Combined with better real native (not the dynamic software) contrast, and I am floored. And it was 0 cheaper than the Olevia originally! The only thing I’m troubled with is the promotion of this dynamic contrast mode so much in an effort to compete with Plasmas. I think the contrast really is getting good enough on these 37″ LCDs that it doesn’t need to hide it. Again, there’s still obviously room for improvement as Dark City and the Fifth Element still aren’t quite filmy yet in their gorgeous contrast rendition on any LCD I’ve seen yet, but it’s getting there. At a higher cost, the newest multi-LED-based screens allow even more control over the backlight, but the only time I see any non-uniformity is on a completely blank, black screen with a very slight flashlight effect in the upper right. Much less than the 237t-t12. Now I must start worrying about upgrading the computer to have the horsepower to get one of these for my upstairs system! X-Plane or Blackshark in 1080P just isn’t going to happen on a P4.

No picture quality issues, but slow at startup – Suzanne Saunders – Rocky Mountains USA
After a good experience with my V VIZIO VO37LF – 37″ LCD TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV I had no hesitation in buying another Vizio TV from Costco last week, when replacing an old second TV. I chose this model because it was being sold at a low price under an “instant rebate” offer.

After a week or so of use, I don’t like it quite as much as I like my other Vizio 37″ HDTV, but I’m happy with the purchase and believe I got my money’s worth.

Unlike other reviewers who have posted here, I have had no problems with color or picture quality. I don’t like the way the menu/setup options are displayed onscreen, which is really a minor gripe. My main issue with this TV is that it takes longer to startup when first turned on, or when I change from one input to another (TV, HDMI1, HDMI3, etc.). Although it’s a matter of seconds, it is a bit longer than my other Vizio TV takes. Also, the remote control seems flimsier and cheaper than the remote for my other Vizio.

On the other hand, this TV cost at least two hundred bucks less, so I consider it a good value for the money. It’s worked well with my LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc Player both with DVDs and Netflix movies. I just got the LG player and haven’t tried any blu-ray discs yet.

I went to the Vizio website and looked up each of these TV models under the “support” tab, and printed out the tech specs for each one. They are overall quite similar, but not identical in all respects. I’m sure the discriminating videophiles who are shopping for HDTVs will be able to decide, based on the specs, if this is a TV they want to try. For this non-expert consumer, it’s been a good purchase.

An Outstanding Choice – Coolfire – Nevada
With respect to all who may have a finer ear for sound and eye for picture perfection, I can find no fault with anything concerning my VO1370M. For me, I fail to understand how the sound could be better or the picture more outstanding. Seriously, anyone finding fault with this set must have received a faulty one. One feature which I have not noticed being covered in the reviews is the Quickstart Guide. Geez, this is a mega-guide. It measures over 31 x 22 inches, in full color, on both sides. This guide is outstanding. It even color codes the path between each back control panel input and the corresponding remote control button, i.e., which button controls which set of plugs on the back or side panel. It pictures, in color, each of the type input plugs and shows, in color, exactly where they plug into the control panels, and prioritizes, again in color, the best, good, etc., possible connections for components. As it turned out, all I had to do was plug the set in, attach the video cable, turn the set on and let it set itself up. No modifications, tuning, etc., were necessary on my part for a perfect picture. The remote is also not only very good looking but very clear and easy to use. Perhaps I was lucky, but I have no hesitation to rate this set five stars.

LG 37LG60 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Piano Black with Scarlet Red Review

After trying to decide on which size television would best fit our entertainment center, I am glad I settled on this one. Initially I leaned toward a JVC 42″ HDTV at Sams club. The physical size would have been tight in the Ent. Center we have. JVC didn’t offer a 40″ set so I looked at the LG brand. I am seeing them on many news broadcast stations in our area used as monitors at the various stations. Also we have several of them at my place of work. We had an AKAI which didn’t last long. Also at our local hospital they have them throughout the different waiting areas. After reading the reviews and specs. I decided to go with the 37″ LG. The one thing that was impressive was the high contrast ratio for the price. I have had the set for a little over a month and I enjoy the picture quality. The Standard broadcast channels do no justice to the set and I only prefer to watch the HD channels. Cons of this set are the sound. The internal speakers are not of that great of quality. I would like to hook it up to our Receiver but it only has inputs for analog signals. The LG set has digital audio outputs. Therefore you are forced to invest in a surround sound system with digital inputs. That I will probably do later. Right now I am looking for a good quality and priced blueray player. Overall it is a good set for the money and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a new HDTV. I researched Consumer reports first and looked at both quality and dependability. The Samsung sets were rated high for picture quality but had a high rate of service calls for repairs. The JVC set had a much lower rate for service problems. After owning a 32″ JVC set that is 6 years old and having good luck with it that is why I leaned toward a JVC brand. My living room is 15′ x 24′ and the 37″ set is just fine for viewing in our house. Personally I try to always buy American made products but, there aren’t many sets manufactured here. Some are assembled here but not many.

Best in it’s category – M. – CenCal USA
Let’s get the bad part over with first. The only complaint I have about this TV is the sound. It goes from 0-100, but there is virtually no difference once you get past about 55. It’s fine at night, but I have to use my surround sound system in the day. This is by no means a deal-breaker though, since poor sound is a problem with just about every flat panel TV no matter how much you spend.
I bought this TV for three reasons. First and foremost: picture quality. In it’s category the 37LG60 is unsurpassed, as far as LCD TVs go. I did three months of research before making this purchase. Of all the LCD TVs I looked at this one had the best stats. It has 120 Hz Trumotion. Sharp, Samsung, and Sony TV’s of the same size only had 60 Hz. Sharp has a 37″ TV with 120 Hz, but it cost 0 more, and had lots of bad reviews. The dynamic contrast ratio is 50,000:1. The best of the other brands was 30,000:1. At 2.7 ms the refresh rate is twice as fast as its competitors. It has four HDMI ports while most others only have as many as three, some only two. What made this TV even more enticing was the price. At 9 it was comparable if not cheaper than all the sets in its category. This is my first HDTV but I know a quality picture
when I see one. A friend has a 40″ Sony S-series and he likes my picture better. He also paid about 0 more than I did. Unfortunately I didn’t see many of this model available, but if you can find one buy it. This is the best 37″ 1080p LCD TV on the market. I hear there is a 61 series coming out, but I’m sure it will be more expensive, although probably well worth it.
I’ve had it for about a month and have had no problems. I will update in a couple of months.

This is the best TV i have ever owned bar none,first off it’s 1080p with 120 hertz refresh rate and 2.7ms response. I use it mainly for my PS3 for Blu-Ray and games both look freaking amazing with an HDMI cable ,and whatever you’ve read about the 120 hertz refresh it really does make a difference when playing COD 4,Bioshock,or any fast paced game absolutely no lag of streaking and there’s no lag in the controls either. only thing you need to buy for this TV is an HDMI cable and a surround sound system because the speakers suck thats the only draw back. so if your a hardcore gamer or a movie buff this is the TV for you.

You can’t go wrong with this TV. I had my eye on it when I found out CompUSA/Tiger Direct had it for 9. Well, in February they had a 2 day sale over a weekend and dropped the price to 9. I didn’t think twice. Bought it on the spot. This TV ranks right up there with my Samsung. I have to admit that I am a Samsung snob when it comes to TVs but this thing is awesome.

I’m no kind of TV expert but I can say so far my tv has been great. The picture is awesome, the size is perfect for my room (I have it set up about 2 feet from my bed although i can imagine being able to watch it from across my room too; my room being about 200 square feet)Of course I can’t speak to specific features but I don’t think I could tell between a 720 and 1060; the picture is extremely clear. And it doesn’t take forever to switch between channels. I’ve read before that the sound leaves something to be desired but honestly, I am very satisfied with it.

The only thing it doesn’t have for this size is a swivel stand which gets kind of annoying sometimes since I always want it either pointed at my bed or my room when i’m doing something.

Otherwise great purchase and totally worth it in my opinion.

What more can I say. Was DOA. It took me a while troubleshooting it to figure out it was DOA. Kept thinking it was me doing something wrong. Ended up just hitting WalMart for a Samsung LN26B460 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV that was actually about the same price. That is a wonderful TV.

On a non-related note, Amazon did NOT refund my money right away. I had to go rounds with their Customer Service folks before they finally gave me the credit. Out 0 for over a month due to this. Not cool.

I bought this TV for a bathroom. I have 2 other HD TVs which are Sony. This LG is a disappointment if compared to the Sony. It is OK for the bathroom as I don’t watch an entire show on it. I would not recommend this TV for a main TV in a home. The color is not vivid on it no matter how you adjust it. The picture is just not the quality that comes with Sony.
